Honors Program Pathways

There are three curriculum Pathways that Honors Program students can pursue during their undergraduate studies: Service, Global Engagement, and Research.  These three Pathways transcend traditional disciplinary boundaries; cannot be pursued in an existing major, minor, or certificate program; capture fields of passionate interest by many HP students; and advance the Georgia Tech motto, “Progress and Service,” and the goals and objectives of Georgia Tech’s Strategic Plan.  All three Pathways require six credit hours of coursework, with a minimum grade of a B for the class to count.

The Honors Program recognizes students who earn Distinction in a Pathway by including an Honors Program Pathway Distinction insignia on the right-hand side of the Honors Program graduation stole, and notation of the award for one or more Pathways on the framed HP "Certificate of Completion." Requirements for the award and lists of approved classes are available HERE.

Honors Program Service Pathway

The Honors Program encourages participants to be engaged members of their community who advance the Georgia Tech motto of "Progress and Service."  To complete the Honors Program Award of Distinction in Service, students must complete six credit hours of approved coursework from the Service Pathway.  A list of approved classes is available HERE.

Honors Program Global Engagement Pathway

We encourage all HP students to become global citizens and to pursue global engagement by coursework that counts toward the HP 15-credit curricular requirement and the 6-credit HP Pathway in Global Engagement. The HP will continue to offer a number of HP Classes with a focus on global engagement.  A list of approved classes is available HERE.

To expand the HP’s capacity to encourage and recognize HP students’ global engagement coursework, the HP also recognizes selected non-HP study abroad courses for HP credit. These courses are offered by partner Georgia Tech study abroad programs and professors and deliver small, active-learning, “HP-style” learning experiences that include significant globally engaged course content.

Honors Program Research Pathway

The Honors Program curriculum also includes courses (up to a combined total of six credits) offered by two premier Georgia Tech research partner programs: the Vertically Integrated Projects (VIP) program, and the President’s Undergraduate Research Awards (PURA) program. Students may also count HP-authorized independent research (up to three credit hours) towards the HP curricular requirement.

VIP courses and PURA salary-award audit courses share the characteristic elements of Honors Program classes and allow Honors Program students to pursue their research passion while earning credits counted toward the Honors Program curriculum. Honors Program students must apply and be accepted to the VIP program to enroll in VIP courses, and must apply and win PURA salary awards to enroll in associated audit courses.

VIP, PURA, and HP-authorized independent research can all be applied to the 15 hour curricular requirement and the HP Pathway in Research.
